Beschreibung
This part is the first deserved to the vast family of Conidae. The West-Ethiopian and Mediterranean Provinces house 99 species and subspecies of which most are endemic to very restricted areas, mainly in the Cape Verde Islands (48), Angola (25), Senegal and Guinea (12). The Conus-fauna of the Madeiras, Canary Islands and St. Helena is also included in that part. One species is described new to science. The text gives a detailed description of the animals and shells as well as information on synonymy, distribution (with detailed maps) habitat and biology. The black-and-white plates are devoted to the radulae of West-African cones, whereas the perfect colour-figures show roughly 1,300 shells, covering the high variability of the fauna. The selected bibliography contains nearly 100 titles.
